Election day for the Georgia General Primary Elections takes place on Tuesday, May 24. This year there are two democratic candidates running for Douglas County Solicitor General. Tamara Oyinloye and incumbent Sonya Compton will face off for the coveted spot.

The Douglas County Flash sat down with candidate Tamara Oyinloye to learn more about who she is and the platform that she is running on.

Who is Tamara Oyinloye?

Tamara Oyinloye (Oi-en-loy-aye) is the former special prosecutor for accountability court for the Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for misdemeanor offenses. Oyinloye obtained her law degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School and her master’s degree at the University of South Florida, and her bachelor’s from Indiana University. Oyinloye was also once an elementary school teacher.

What is her platform for the citizens of Douglas County?

Tamara Oyinloye’s goal is to reduce the number of DUIs in Douglas County. If Oyinloye is elected she plans to start a community outreach program to educate citizens about the consequences of a DUI.

According to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, in 2020 Douglas County experienced 204 first-time DUI convictions.

Oyinloye also wants to create a written standard operating procedure, address an alleged backlog of cases, establish specialized training for prosecutors, and improve the time spent in jail for misdemeanor offenses.

What is her proudest accomplishment in Douglas County?

Oyinloye’s proudest accomplishment was being a part of the DUI court and treatment program in Douglas county.

Why does Tamara Oyinloye want to be Douglas County’s next Solicitor General?

Oyinloye wants to be an advocate for the people of Douglas County and make the roads safer.

I just want Douglas County to know that in me they have an advocate, that I’m taking it seriously. I will not let them down. I am ready to tackle the challenges that lie ahead and undo what has been done over the last four years.
