Former Chapel Hill High School graduate Shaina McLawrence has been making a big impact in New York City Journalism. McLawrence, a 2014 Chapel Hill High School graduate in Douglasville, GA, is a member of a team of journalists who received an award for breaking news coverage.

According to The Staten Island Advance, the newspaper, “received the Distinguished Breaking News Coverage Award for their impactful work on the ‘Tottenville High School Shooting’ series.”

The article recalls the breaking news team’s efforts to quickly jump into action when alerted of a lockdown at Staten Island’s Tottenville High School on October 22, 2022.
