On January 6th the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Douglas County Community Services Board had a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Youth Innovation Center. The center is a state-of-the-art youth center aimed at helping Douglas County youth and their parents.

The center is located at 3491 Skyview Drive, which is the site of the old Hamilton State Bank. The newly renovated site has the words “Youth Innovation Center” adorned on the building. An SUV wrapped with the words “Douglas County Youth Innovation Center” and its website www.douglascountycsb.com sits parked in one of the parking spots available.

According to their website and social media posts, the center takes a “holistic approach to treatment using modern and traditional methods to assist the youth”. Kemiko Lawrence is the director of the center, which has already begun serving youth in the community.

This new resource addresses many of the issues surrounding today’s youth. At-risk youth can receive assistance from many of the 5013c’s working with the innovation center. Youth and their parents will be able to access services in a ‘safe space’ within the 5000 sq. ft. facility.
